A boat drops you on a private lakeside sanctuary where guests walk among giraffe, zebra and antelope. It is a walking visit, not a vehicle circuit and not a predator park.
Crescent Island Game Sanctuary sits on Lake Naivasha. Guests do not drive a park road. A boat crosses from a lakeside jetty; you land at the sanctuary, walk with a guide when one is available, and return by boat before the island closes.
Transcend arranges the crossing and the day. We do not own the sanctuary or operate its boats. The official sanctuary states that it does not run boat tours — the walk and the boat are separate pieces, which is why we plan them together.

The sanctuary lists a long bird checklist. A count published on its biodiversity page in January 2026 recorded more than 135 species. Bring binoculars if birds are your reason for coming.
The official list includes Masai giraffe, Burchell’s zebra, waterbuck, gazelle, impala, wildebeest, buffalo and others. Numbers and closeness change with the day. Buffalo and other animals use the same ground you walk — stay with your guide.
Guests who want to be on foot rather than in a Land Cruiser. Families whose children can walk steadily for an hour or more. Birdwatchers who want to combine it with a Lake Naivasha boat safari, where that pairing is available. It is a poor fit if anyone needs a fully seated game drive, or if you arrive too late for last entry.
The walk itself is often a substantial morning or afternoon once you add the crossing. Combined with a shoreline boat hour it fills half a Naivasha day. Add Hell’s Gate only if you start early and keep the gorge realistic.
Ask the boatman for Crescent Island Game Sanctuary and look for the official landing sign and a badged guide. The sanctuary asks visitors to pay island entry on arrival and to take an official receipt — do not treat a boat ticket as island entry.
Guides on the island are first-come, first-served. Advance booking is not required for a simple walk, according to the official site, unless you need a guaranteed guide. We still plan the boat and pickup so you are not guessing the jetty.

Lakeside hotels make the crossing simple. Request rooms on hotels. The sanctuary also lists its own cottages for guests who want to sleep on the island — that is a separate stay, not a Transcend property.

No. The boat is the water hour. Crescent Island is the walk after you land. Many guests do both on the same outing.
The official sanctuary says day-walk bookings are not required unless you want a guaranteed guide. We still arrange the boat and pickup so the day holds together.

Both are walking, bird-rich days near Naivasha. Crescent Island is a boat-access sanctuary on the main lake. Crater Lake is a private volcanic crater and soda lake to the west. They are different landscapes — pick one unless you have two days.
